kings_college_towerWelcome to the
AU Storytelling Society!

AUSS

Formed 2007

This society is the first of its kind at the University of Aberdeen, and is affiliated with Grampian Association of Storytellers (GAS)

The Storytelling Society aims to introduce the ancient world tradition of oral tales and stories to a modern audience.  There will be regular guest storytellers from GAS, including Stanley Robertson a master storyteller from the Scottish Traveller tradition.  Besides that, AUSS will run training and workshops to help you develop storytelling and narrative techniques, and generally have fun!

Storytelling is art, performance, fun, informative, helpful, theraputic and magical.  Trainee teachers, researchers, journalists, performers, singers, in fact ANYONE can benefit from becoming a storyteller.

Society Aims:

  • We aim to provide a fun and friendly environment for people who wish to learn the art of storytelling and for those who like listening to other people's stories.

  • We welcome people from all backgrounds and believe we have the perfect forum for international students to come and share their cultures as well as learning about traditional Scottish folklore.

  • We have great links with the GAS and get special invites to their events and additionally we hope to set up links with other university societies.  Storytelling is great fun and looks great on a CV - especially for those who wish to work with young people, on the stage, or as professional storytellers.

  • So come along and give it a go - and remember that listeners are particularly welcome and that nobody is forced to tell a story if they don't want too - after all if talking was more important than listening we would have two mouths and one ear!

We meet every wedenesday during term in NK11 Kings College at 7.30pm.  Click HERE for a map of the campus, New Kings is number 19 on the map.

Come along if you fancy hearing a few good tales.
